Comments Thread For: Lomachenko Baits Rigondeaux To Step Up, Fight

WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2KOs) has placed Guillermo Rigondeaux (15-0, 10KOs) in an awkward position - by aggressively pursing a fight with the Cuban WBA/WBO super bantamweight champion.

Talk of the two fighting, both with remarkable amateur records and two Olympic gold medals on their ledger, has gone on for some time.

Lomachenko has spoken to his promoter Top Rank, who are willing to put up a six figure sum for both fighters - with an additional $500 thousand to the winner.

That's big money, but with the size disadvantage against Rigo, that bonus check is staying with TR.

Well Loma, but yeah. Unless of course, Rigo really is that good.

the people are hyping this fight up... to make up for may pac?
itll be a 1 sided showcase for loma... rigo is too small...

rigo's previous bigger opponents were all too one dimensional, and were at least in the 122 division lol

On one hand, I find this really shameful on Loma's part. Rigo is small for his division, the guy barely gains after the weigh ins. If you gonna call him out, play ball with him on the scale at least.

On the other hand, Rigo should take this because he has no other big money options. Already up there in age, opportunities like this wont come around often.

Can he not even come down a pound to 125? If not definitely needs to be a rehydration clause in there, 135 or 136 as he was in last fight. $500,000 penalty for missing it.

Even saying all that if Rigo comes in at 126 and Loma at 136 that is a huge advantage - ACTIVELY calling out someone a weight class below, rather than responding to a reporter's question, is not very ethical. Would be more impressed if he called out Walters in the same manner. If Golovkin started actively calling out Mayweather every opportunity I'd be disappointed - as it is he has just responded to reporter questions.

500k doesn't seem like that much for Loma v Rigo.

I wonder if a Top Rank guy has access to Lomachenko's twitter account and is tweeting on his behalf.
