  • Comments Thread For: Golovkin's Coach: Cotto Possible if He Beats Canelo Easy

NEW YORK – Abel Sanchez expects Canelo Alvarez to beat Miguel Cotto.

If that happens, Gennady Golovkin’s trainer is sure Mexico’s Alvarez (45-1-1, 32 KOs) would defend the WBC middleweight title against Golovkin, assuming Golovkin (33-0, 30 KOs) defeats David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KOs) in their Oct. 17 middleweight championship unification fight at Madison Square Garden. If Cotto wins their highly anticipated, HBO Pay-Per-View showdown Nov. 21 in Las Vegas, Sanchez envisions Cotto fighting Golovkin only if he beats Alvarez easily.

Yes GGG's trainer has to speak on behalf of his fighter due to GGG's language barrier and that's going to generate communication problems with his fans.

Abnel talks way too much chit! Needs to be quiet. GGG needs to have translator and have his own responses/interviews.

Getting tired of this dude talking all this smack.

WTF? "Maybe Cotto will think he is more that what he is?" Maybe your not the trainer everyone thinks you are you just happen to have a fighter with alot of power that makes you look good.

Does this guy know how long Miguel Cotto has been in the boxing game? Abel is getting way ahead of his self. GGG first time headlining a PPV he may not want to be acting like they have been around for awhile. GGG is now steping up his competition. Cotto has been doing it for yrs.

If Cotto beats Canelo easily he might fool himself into thinking he's something he's not?!

You dumb fck if he beats Canelo EASILY he IS exactly whatever da fck he says he IS!

Abel talks too much. He was also taking about Kovalev in the lead up to his fighter Mohammedi challenging Krusher for his title. Kovalev took it out on Mohammedi and destroyed him, begging him to get up so that he can continue to beat him up.

That's cute being that K2 never said they would dictate terms with Cotto.

The only thing remotely close would be Tom Leoffler saying for a Cotto/Canelo WBC mandatory fight, it would be the full 160 pounds. Which is accurate because for mandatory fights, there is no such thing as a "mandatory catch weight". A fighter cannot force a catch weight in a mandatory obligation.
