Comments Thread For: Kathy Duva on Glazkov, Stevens, Kovalev and Others

Russia - After her duties during Sergey Kovalev’s homecoming presser were finally over, BoxingScene.com caught up with the CEO of the Main Events, Kathy Duva, to discuss Sergey Kovalev’s next fight and some fighters with her promotional company.

BoxingScene: Will you partner with any Russian party to stage Sergey Kovalev’s fight on November 28 in Moscow?

Duva: We have negotiations with a couple of different ones and also some negotiations with financial groups on that but nothing is set at the moment. We shall wait and see what the best options are.

No, she's a good promoter. Look at the excellent job she's done with Kovalev.

It's good she sees Arif Magomedov's potential, with the right management he could be middleweight champion in a couple of years.

She made a huge mistake with the WBC purse bid situation. I think she really believed Stevenson as afraid of Kovalev because that's what she was reading in the press. I still can't figure out her strategy in that situation. Kovalev's now in position with no one of not to fight and might lose his belts due to purse bids. She has to find an investor willing to overpay for a Kovalev/Beterbiev match in order to show the fight on HBO.

She should've showcased Magomedov on the undercard of Kovalev's last fight instead of Pascal. That Pascal fight was a good fight but Pascal isn't her fighter so it does nothing for Main Events, unless they try to put on Pascal/Kovalev II, which is unnecessary. Why is Stevens fighting BKB? N'Dam/Stevens would be a good fight. MW is thin and Stevens is still a top 10 MW fighter and exciting to watch. Her whole company right now is based on one fighter.

A ******ed goldfish coulda gottan Kov a HBO deal with his power. In fact I think its 50/50 whether this speculative ******ed goldfish coulda made the fight with Stevenson & parlayed that into even a better deal with HBO or PBC after his KO win.

He can fight Yunieski Gonzalez who many felt beat Pascal, and would probably beat Stevenson.

Stevenson's name is hyped through association with Kovalev, in reality all he does is fight bums.

Even if Kovalev loses the belts, he'll still be the man.

N'Dam already fought Stevens, and it wasn't a great fight.

Pascal-Gonzalez yielded two potential fights for Kovalev, Gonzalez himself and/or a rematch with Pascal.

Stevens is fighting in BKB because he lost to Golovkin (career high payday) & N'Dam.

Either Cuban, Sullivan Barrera (16-0) or Gonzalez, would be a decent opponent for Kovalev's next fight.

He might receive more credit and less criticism if he fights Barrera because of his "0".

Ideally would like to see him fight Juergen Braehmer, it's a bit of a joke that he can sit in Germany calling himself world champion while in the top 5 with Ring & TBR without fighting any of the top guys.

Compare Duva's promotion of Kovalev, to the poor job Top Rank is doing with the equally talented Oleksandr Gvozdyk and Egor Mekhontsev (and has done in the past with Matvey Korobov).

                  She's a good promoter.
