Comments Thread For: Tarver: “Not A Chance In Hell” Fury Upsets Klitschko

Antonio Tarver readily admits he, too, would be a huge underdog if he ever gets the chance to challenge Wladimir Klitschko.

But the former undisputed light heavyweight champion is unequivocally sure he’d have a much better shot at upsetting the long-reigning, huge heavyweight champion than Tyson Fury. When asked about the possibility of the 6-foot-9, 260-pound Fury (24-0, 18 KOs) defeating the 6-6, 245-pound Klitschko (64-3, 53 KOs) in their Oct. 24 title fight in Dusseldorf, Germany, Tarver told BoxingScene.com, “Not a chance in hell. Period. And everybody knows that. Come on, man. Everybody knows that.

Tarver's honesty is refreshing to say the least; no, it's remarkable.

I will say, that is exactly what people thought of him against Jones and look what happened!

I wouldn't say "No chance in hell" but I very small chance Fury upsets Klitchko.

I don't understand whysome people totally write Fury off? I mean look at the size of him. If he fights even half as good as he talks, he will do ok.

Wlad although is the best he isn't inhuman or unbeatable or that great even if he does go down top 20 all time wise. He is at the age where its time to hand over the batton, and Fury will be one of the better challengers hes faced.

The guys who beat Wlad, are they really that much better than Fury? If Fury beats Wlad, some people will eat their words. So I wouldn't totally write Fury off.
I think Wlad could very well beat Fury, but only cos its in Germany mainly.

Fury has been carefully matched his whole career against opponents that pose minimal risk and that he can look good beating. Fury's had his moments where opponents have knocked him down and pushed him, but no one that I would consider a real dangerous threat. With Klitschko, he's going from the AAA farm league to the majors and I don't think he'll be able to compete on that level.

On the one hand, Tarver's opinion would usually hold some weight because he's a veteran a skilled fighter, and a great commentator. But on the other hand, his opinion is significantly diminished when you realize that he's just hawk-eyeing that Klitschko pay day for himself so this opinion is much more wishful thinking than anything else.

Seems to me also that people have put too much into Fury being knocked down by Cunningham. Fury was messing around with his hands down, chin out in the air, taunting Steve to try and make the fight exciting. There's no way he'll do that against Klitschko. Look at it another way - if Klitschko had fought Cunningham and did the same taunting move, and got caught flush by Cunningham he probably would have been out for the count and lost that fight (a lot of people would have).

It took Tarver two chances to get faded Jones though.

That said, Fury has showed an extreme amount of improvement since he turned pro and with his size, he has possibly the best chance to upset Wladimir as there is aside from maybe Wilder.

I agree but wouldn't you like to see what Tarver could do vs. Fury? I would.
