Comments Thread For: BJ Flores on Shumenov Loss, Eyes Tony Bellew Clash

BoxingScene.com caught up with cruiserweight contender and NBC color analyst BJ Flores following his recent and somewhat controversial decision loss to Beibut Shumenov in their Premier Boxing Champions clash for the interim-WBA title fight at The Palms in Las Vegas.

BoxingScene: You lost a close decision to Shumenov last month on your home network NBC. All three judges had it 116-112. Were you suprised with the scoring?

Only thing I got from this is Keith Thurman and Shawn Porter will be back soon, and on PBC.

Flores and Gonzalez both got robbed in Vegas that weekend. Different properties but same Vegas horrible judges. At what point do these officials get banned for turning in consistently lousy scorecards?

You´re not wrong, but here´s a fun fact: Flores is the highest ranked US CW #39 BoxRec. The second best is.. RJJ! - Perhaps the American fans could adopt Huck as one of their own to give the division some boost? I think the top ten is pretty competitive and there are lots of great fights to be made. Would be a shame if they were to be unappreciated.

Flores easily won that fight. Every right hand he landed noticeably moved and shook Shumenov.

I'm surprised at the hate BJ is getting - he's a nice guy and seems to genuinely want to improve the current standing of boxing as a niche "once a year PPV sport" for the masses to a mainstream sport where tens of millions gather every Saturday to watch great fights on free, non-premium/subscription channels.

Another fu fact - all the top guys and champions are White save Pablo Hernandez who seems desperate to avoid the best.

If Flores beat Shumenov than Anthony Crolla definitely beat Darleys Perez, Sam Soliman beat Dominic Wade, Mauricio Herrera beat Danny Garcia, Maidana beat Floyd (1st fight), etc etc.
I personally don't think it was a bad decision. Just like the Porter Brook fight, you had a lot of American fans whining because their fighter was pushing forward the whole fight, even if they weren't actually connecting with many meaningful punches while their opponent showed better ring generalship and defense and connected with enough punches to win the majority of the rounds. Flores isn't going any higher than the B level anyways so I don't see how it even matters in the grand scheme of things.
