"Britain's first ever lightweight world champion"

Is that an inside joke, or have you genuinely never heard of Ken Buchanan, Jim Watt, or even Ricky Burns?

    Jesus.

The 3 mentioned above are Scottish. A Scotsman probably doesn't see himself as British. And it's self evident Flannigan is originally an Irish name. But born in England therefore "British"

Before Buchanan, Watt and Burns, Freddie Welsh was the first Brit to win the lightweight title. Can't really expect Flanagan to be clued up about any of that, though, when he's confused enough to call Manchester "the best city in the world." Calling it a city at all is stronging it. More a settlement on the banks of a stagnant canal.

flanagan is the dullest, thickest **** in boxing, and his title win was a farce. they better not match him with a stiff; he still needs to earn that belt

I actually like Terry Flanagan, but if he wants any credence then he's going to have to start looking for unifications & more over fight outside of the UK!

Wish this site wouldn't run this fairy tale write up ****e written by a boxer's publicist. They act like it's some historic effing achievement that this guy's opponent hurt himself and couldn't continue and therefore this dude "won" an alphabet belt that he will likely "defend" against a nobody in his hometown. It's like Jacobs celebrating his "win" over Mora, but even more ludicrous
