Comments Thread For: Tarver: After Cunningham, I Want Wilder or Klitschko

Antonio Tarver has no desire to face any other ranked heavyweights after his upcoming bout against Steve Cunningham. That’s because there will be no need for anything except a fight with the two men who hold major heavyweight titles, he said.

“I want to face [Deontay] Wilder or [Wladimir] Klitschko. I ain’t got nothing else to prove, man,” Tarver said. “I’m going to prove it all Aug. 14. They know who I am. I got five championships to my name. I don’t have to prove nothing. They know who I am. They know I’m ready to fight. I’m a tough out for anybody. So I ain’t got time to be fighting all these nondescript fighters.

Tarver should fight a "big" heavyweight like Briggs, Pulev, Wach or even Ustinov before fighting Klischko or Wilder... or maybe going after Chagaev, that' would be a winnable fight. Because Cunningham, Banks, Aguilera... they all small heavies.
He seemed to carry power against Banks though. i'd like to see what it does against a real big man. Still, i really think his skills and defense would cause problems to any champions in this division. But for how long, that's the question

Tarver has lost his wanker. But that happens when you get old.

Time ain't on his side, and homeboy gots to get paid. That said, if he'll take a cool 20 grand, Wilder needs an opponent who doesn't mind travelling to Alabama...

Tarver reminds me of Pasqual and others who haven't accomplished shyt in years but feel that they are entitled to a significant title fight. You DO have something to prove there Antonio, it's called "relevance".

Tarver has to talk as much mess as possible because the court just dinged him 400k for child support payments.

If he beats Cunningham all you will hear out of his mouth is Wilder and Klitschko all day long.

If Wlad fought Tarver it'd be akin to the Mormeck fight, probably worse. Tarver is 46 years old and a former light heavyweight with no significant wins in the last ten years. Even if he beats Cunningham (unlikely I reckon) then he still has a long ways to go to justifying himself a shot.
