Comments Thread For: BJ Flores: Tough To Win When Shumenov Ran All Night

LAS VEGAS - Beibut Shumenov (16-2, 10 KOs) defeated B.J. Flores (31-2-1, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision Saturday night to win a cruiserweight world title on Premier Boxing Champions on NBCSN from the Pearl at Palms Casino Resort.

Shumenov came out aggressive early before using his movement late to earn a world title in a second division and become the first fighter from Kazakhstan to achieve that feat. Flores was competitive throughout the fight, countering effectively when Shumenov showed aggression while landing more power punches.

ugh that sucks. I thought this guy would win, I guess he never jabbed, I thought he would be geting off first if hop could do it. Thought this guy was a smart fighter obviously not. Even without a jab you can still counter him by slipping, steping and throwing in one movement.

I hate it when fighters blame a loss on the other fighter 'running'. Unless you have a situation where the opponent is literally refusing to engage or even enter into striking range then it's a wack excuse. Boxing involves movement, and if your preference is to fight in close then it's up to you to cut the opponent down. If you lack the footwork or other skills necessary to do that then that's your problem, no one else's.

Saying that, I haven't seen the Flores Shumenov match yet, so I don't know is this was a genuine case of the other fighter running, but I doubt it. At any rate, it would have been impossible to win just running all night since you wouldn't have even been able to land your own shots, let alone avoid the opponent's.

Best part of the fight was when the trainer told Flores that he needed to cut off the ring and BJ asked "How?" lol
