  • Comments Thread For: Pascal: I Had “Bad Night,” Still Best Light Heavyweight

Jean Pascal plans to atone for a “bad night” against Sergey Kovalev in his first fight since Kovalev stopped him.

The former WBC light heavyweight champion from Laval, Quebec, will encounter Cuba’s Yunieski Gonzalez in a 10-round fight Saturday night at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. HBO will air their 10-rounder to start a “World Championship Boxing” doubleheader scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET. Russia’s Kovalev (27-0-1, 24 KOs) will defend his IBF, WBA and WBO light heavyweight titles against IBF mandatory challenger Nadjib Mohammedi (37-3, 23 KOs), of France, in the 12-round main event.

I think he did the best that he can do in the first fight. A rematch would end much quicker.

      I agree.

And this is coming from someone who totally loves Pascal. Pascal has the heart of a lion and he is really skilled. However, his shorter reach and lack of power make it impossible for him to beat Kovalev imo.

I would prefer to see Pascal Stevenson at the moment, very bad blood between the two of them. But Stevenson looks happy to keep ducking

        Be Real .....

Why not be a little bit humble ???

When a boxer I enjoy watching gets beat and the question of a potential rematch is discussed, I'd expect (Hope) to hear an analytical approach....

I'd much more respect a response more along these lines::: " I lost to a disciplined well-prepared fighter...
He made the adjustments better than I did, and proved worthy of the title... In retrospect, I've realized how to exploit his style and thwart his attack... I'm looking forward to challenge and am grateful for the opportunity to prove to my fans that I truly am the best this division has to offer ! "

You lose credibility when you say I am the best, but had a bad night.. Tell us, you lost and have grown from the experience... That you are more focused and driven to avenge the loss...

The day I hear a boxer use the word "thwart" I will sit up and pay attention.

            HaHa, Touche !!!

Well, a paraphrase of that sentiment is what I'd respect...

Well, he's bound to talk himself into ANOTHER butt kicking... SOON! He would be a rather good/logical candidate for Ward to whip on first if Andre decides to invade the LHwts.

I could imagine Tyson maybe having used it:

"I thwarted him like an inthect…"

Agreed. Especially since Kovalev seems pissed with him. Also, it's not like that beating helped him at all.

lmao, I would also expect Chris Eubank to also use thwart, with a similar lisp.
