Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Price, Lee-Saunders, Crolla, Frampton

When Andy Lee and Billy Joe Saunders step into the ring at T****nd Park in Limerick on Saturday 19 September it will be the 275th world title fight in which I have been involved as a promoter during my 30-odd years in the game.

And I have to say the WBO World Middleweight championship between the two engagingly talkative Travelling men rates very high on my list of those I have most anticipated. I am licking my lips already.

In many ways it is the perfect match: dignified champion, a big puncher who can take someone out with one stunning dig, and a zestful young challenger who has real style, is a beautiful boxer and can punch himself a bit when he needs to.

Obviously didn't watch the Frampton fight but qualified to criticise Frank? First flash knockdown was a jab and 2nd an overhand right behind the ear. Carl did not go down from any body shot!!!! Unbelievable.

Usual mush from Warren. Saunders-Lee is a decent fight but he's making out like it's the biggest fight in Britain in years. I was more excited by Saunders-Eubank. But I suppose it's the only thing he has to crow about right now, seeing as he got frozen out of the Fury-Klitschko deal.

Also, Frampton (despite the early knockdown) was not 'average', nor was his opponent 'very average'. Frampton boxed very well at times and thrilled the fans. It wasn't his best performance, but it was still a solid performance all considered. Gonzalez was also very solid and strong. If he's 'very average', what does that make the likes of Mitchell Smith and Frank Buglioni?

I actually enjoy Warren's writing style, he is a fairly talented writer, a good communicator with the right balance between pride "275th world title fight" and humility "don't give up the day job". He has every right to be proud for being in the game so long. We should be pleased to get insight from a top promoter every week. Imagine if Haymon, Hearn, or ODLH would write articles like this - but that ain't happening. The closest we get is an interview with Duva as she often gives very long responses.

"Mush" ? Yeah well ... I guess you are criticising the content rather than the
style of Warren's writing. I agree with you that Gonzalez would give any featherweight issues apart from maybe Loma. I think he might even beat LSC a year down the road with a couple more fights experience. But ya know ?...... that is what promoters do .. talk up their fighters and talk other fighters down - it's a case of the reader making allowance for that.

BTW - It's not in Britain. It's in the Republic of Ireland. And yes, it is the biggest fight in that country for years.

I think sauerland should have sorted the gloves issue before the fight.......not last minute, amateur. If those were punchers kind of gloves. Price ducked too much and couldnt then turn with the proceeding punch in time, he needs to lift the shoulder more and duck less. He should have smothered teper more, not be fighting small or geting pushed down like that, thats going to damage your posture.
