You have to do something unbelievable and historical to be considered one of the 10 greatest boxers to ever compete
Out pointing old mosely, stalling the pacquaio fight for 6 years, weight draining canelo, filling record out with guerrero/ortiz type guys
That's a decent run but if that's one of the 10 greatest boxers to ever live the sport of boxing is pretty lame, he was mostly just a careful opportunist
Now, an aged Floyd beating a prime Gennady Golovkin for the 154 and 160 titles? that would blow away the rest of his career and be a historical featLast edited by ////; 07-23-2015, 12:14 AM.

It woud be equivalent to SRLs win over Hagler. Apart from GGG is not quite as good as Hagler yet, but I take into consideration Floyd is a lil smaller than SRL.
Floyd started @ 130...SRL started as a solid welter 5'10"... Gold medal @ 139
GGG isn't the lineal champ Floyd already beat cotto
If he beat GGG and beat cotto again
That's 5 lineal titles n beating boxing's so called bogeyman on a 20 ko streak

The truth is people don't like him because to many people he comes off as a very unlikable character and it's difficult for people to give high praise to those they dislike. As time passes, those feelings will too and people will be able to recognize his ring accomplishments and fighting skills for what they truly are. Something about aging that allows people to forgive and forget, look at Tyson he was one of the most hated athletes in the world for a time and now he's everyone's favorite retired boxer. Even Ali was hated by millions of people during the height of his career.

got Floyd top 20 all time
Skill wise... Talent wise and dominance in prime... I say top 5
My top 5 all time by my criteria is...SRR, Roy Jones, Floyd mayweather, Muhammad ALi( Ali was coming into his own in the late 60s we missed his absolute best), Sam langforde

Point about Tyson:
He definitely went from hated to beloved after he stopped boxing
BUT his all time ranking definitely didn't go up... If anything it seems like it immediately went down. Once the media blitz and intense image slowed down and experts looked at his final record they said meh.

From what I've seen with my own eyes Mayweather is a better Boxer than Louis, Pep, Ali and SRR. However I know greatness doesn't equate to skill set.
1. SRR
2. Ali
3. Floyd
4. Pep
5. SRL
6. Louis
7. Armstrong
8. Greb
9. Joe
10. Moore
Of the top of my head, might seem more realistic in a decade or two.
