Comments Thread For: Frank Warren on Froch-Calzaghe, Flanagan, More

I could not be happier for Terry Flanagan. His historic acquisition of the WBO World Lightweight title as the first Englishman to reign in this division was another tremendous boost for British boxing, which currently is on so much of a high.

How many world champions does the UK and Ireland have now? I think it is ten including three interim title holders, but I seem to have lost count! And there may be a fistful more to come before the years is out.

Usual mush from Warren. Flanagan's win was in no way a 'tremendous boost' for British boxing; it's been decried in almost every quarter as a farce. It should have been a No Contest, with a rematch nailed on for as soon as Zepeda is fit (it sounds like Warren is entertaining a return, though I wouldn't be surprised if he retracts that statement). I certainly wouldn't describe Flanagan's 'win' as a 'triumph' but you expect this drivel from Frank.

Not saying Flanagan isn't a good fighter, I think he would have gone on to win myself, but he didn't 'beat' Zepeda in any sense of the word.

Also, why the fuq is Warren talking about rematches with Derry and Ormond? They're old hat and there's tons of other opponents out there. The Ormond fight was a scrappy affair anyway, and Flanagan won clearly, making Ormond quit essentially, so where the hell is the need for a return? It shows a total lack of imagination on the part of Warren. It's not a fight that is going to excite anyone.

Frank says he'll make Crolla an offer if he wins, but every single offer directed to a Matchroom fighter is described as poor by Hearn. Seems like Warren's pockets aren't deep enough to secure the big, meaningful fights. I'm sure Hearn would be able to offer Flanagan more than Warren could offer Crolla for that fight, but he'll likely pair Crolla and Kevin Mitchell up to make a big blockbuster domestic fight (if Crolla does the biz later tonight). Moreover, Flanagan's profile isn't yet where it needs to be to make that a huge fight, even if they're both Mancunians.

'Very professional presentation' by the BoxNation team? Bunce is like a blundering, beery oaf, constantly shouting at viewers, regularly droning throughout the ring-walks (while talking about fans complaining that he interrupts the ring-walks - go figure), Barry Jones has the kind of whiny-yet-somehow-soporific voice that both sends you to sleep and makes you click your tongue in annoyance, and John Rawling is just plain dull. Steve Lillis is the only decent one, actually Gary Lockett is half decent as well but overall BoxNation's coverage is amateur hour. And where is this 'new content' that's been promised for about six months?

Finally, why am I not surprised Warren is bringing up his oft-repeated assertion that Calzaghe would have beaten Froch? Seriously, we've heard this a million times before, Frank. If Calzaghe wanted to fight Froch, he could have - Froch was his mandatory. Also, 'Froch never fought opponents quite as good as those Joe faced', are you ****ting me?! An old, faded Roy Jones? Chris Eubank in his last fight? Froch's resume craps all over Joe's, anyone with a brain knows this.

Did he really just say Calzaghe fought better opposition than Froch did?

      wtf is he smoking?

He also said he offered Froch the fight twice and he declined
