  • Comments Thread For: Amir Khan Calls Bull on Karim Mayfield's Sparring Tales

British star Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) has denied the recent claims that were made by Karim Mayfield.

Khan is pushing to get in the ring with WBC/WBA welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

But Mayweather created some confusion last month when he mentioned Karim Mayfield and Andre Berto as the frontrunners to face him in the fall.

Mayfield staked his position to get the opportunity by stating that he badly punished Khan during sparring sessions.

Hyping yourself via sparring sessions is kinda sad. Says a lot about your career that you have to promote yourself over things that happened in the gym instead of things that happened in a profession fight.

Just don't respond. No one takes Karim Mayfield seriously. I mean this dude lost to Dulorme and Emmanuel Taylor.

Karim is a fun guy to be around in the gym. And, he's good friends with my cousin. But, he talks a lot. He never whooped Khan. Also, Khan always looks impressive...in the gym.

I didn't see them spar. I never heard about them sparring, and I'm pretty in the loop. I know that Karim has looked less than world class against guys who literally walk in off the street (one guy was even my uber driver). Khan is pretty stand out in the gym. If Karim truly did Khan in--it would be the talk of the gym.

That's just my take. Again, I train at the same gym both of these guys frequent, and my family has been involved in Bay Area boxing a long long time (maybe 40 years).

OK I believe you. Karim to me has talent, but he doesn't have concentration at times. I guess Karim did a Khan when Khan said he sparred Ward LOL. Sometimes I think **** these boxers all lie, but then I think of myself and white lies are said in general, so I do forgive. Broner has talent but when I see him spar and fight, he really lacks this intensity, which is shocking tbh. I guess that may be how Mayfield is when sparring?

As for Khan, he obviously is World class, and I do believe without making weight that he handles punches better. What's your take on Khan at 147 vs other fights out there?

Khan is a pretty astute guy--yet he seems to lose concentration. Khan went head to head with a sub par kickboxer turned boxer (Algieri). But, strangely he seems to be thinking his way through a fight... Over thinking. I think his speed, and flashy work rate can dazzle judges. I wouldn't be surprised if he beat anyone at 147 (even Floyd). But, at the same time his lack of concentration makes him a wild card that can possibly lose to anyone. I think people make too much of alleged glass chin; he's been stopped by Prescott, Garcia, and dazed by Maidana. Those dudes all ****.

Broner is one of those guys who has physical gifts but the way he was brought along actually did him a disservice. He doesn't handle going defense to offense. His fundamentals are ish. Also, he still telegraphs his body jab and head Jab via how he holds his front hand.

Karim is a scrappy guy, but I don't think he's developed his tools yet. A good friend of mine is an assistant to Hunter and they've been helping out. But, Bautista is a good motivator and tough guy but I think he lacks the in ring experience to bring Karim to the next level. A long time ago I used to work out at SFC so I'd see Karim all the time. We are similar in age too. He hasn't really had the best guidance.

                    Bottom line: concentration is key
