  • Comments Thread For: Crolla Feels "100%" as Perez WBA Title Fight Nears

Anthony Crolla claims he is in the best shape of his life as he prepares to return to the ring seven months after being viciously attacked.

The Mancunian fighter suffered a fractured skull, concussion and a broken ankle after being hit with a concrete block when confronting burglars who had entered a neighbour's property last December.

His injuries not only cost him a planned shot at the WBA lightweight title against Richar Abril in January but left him fighting for his career.

Darleys Perez is the current WBA regular champion, with Derry Mathews the interim champ. Abril got downgraded to champion in recess as the WBA were frustrated that he was defending the belt once a year and pulling out of fights regularly. After the Crolla incident he was free to fight whoever and went and signed up to fight Derry Mathews on boxnation but a week before the fight he pulled out after getting bit by a mosquito and contracting the tropical disease dengue fever. He then signed back up to fight Mathews and then pulled out again so Mathews was forced to fight short notice opponent Tony Luis for the WBA interim title which he won. Perez picked up the regular title as he was the interim WBA champion before Mathews so was upgraded. Now here we are Crolla vs Perez next saturday WBA lightweight regular title. I commend Crolla as i think he should have had a warm up to test his body. Brave man.
