Chris Arreola was so surprised the Deontay Wilder-Eric Molina fight lasted as long as it did, the heavyweight contender is convinced Wilder “carried” Molina into the later rounds.

Arreola (36-4, 31 KOs, 1 NC) knocked out Molina in the first round of their February 2012 fight and didn’t expect Molina to last much longer against the hard-hitting Wilder, who might fight Arreola on Sept. 26. The undefeated WBC heavyweight champion didn’t knock out Molina (23-3, 17 KOs) until the ninth round, and not before Molina wobbled the heavily favored hometown fighter in the third round of their June 13 bout in Birmingham, Alabama.

Molina and Aerrola is an even scrap between two below average slow Mexicans. Both are not very good.

I dont think Wilder was trying to get some rounds in, I just think Molinas size was key to him doing better than expected, even he said it, Wilders past opponents were alot shorter than him making it easy to land an overhand right bomb. Any decently trained boxer almost as tall, same height, or taller than wilder is going to know (or should know) to keep their lead shoulder high to take away Wilders right or at least make a harder target and thats what Molina did just to stay alive longer than expected. Its Wilders responsibility to set up the punch by getting the fighter out of position with other punches, faints, or movement which he ended up doing. I think it was more of a learning experience for Wilder, not a let me gets some rounds in to build stamina or stay sharp.

But with that said, Wilder KO's Arreola because unlike Molina, Arreolas not as tall and comes in shoulder down which will be an easy target for the big Bronze overhand right Bomb.

Thats what it seemed like. Wilder probably could have knocked him out in 3 rounds if he wanted to. Anyone notice how deontay seems to switch up his style lately and doesnt try to knock guys out early.?

Yes. You saw him feinting with his shoulders for the KO at the end of the fourth. So his primary weapon was being neutralized so he brought other pieces in his arsenal. Sign of an intelligent fighter..

No. Molina was aware of the right hand and was able to smother it or get under it.

Wilder needs to diversify his attack especially against these more solid, experienced contenders.
