Comments Thread For: Two Mandatories Await Chagaev-Pianeta Winner

A hectic schedule awaits the winner of this weekend’s heavyweight clash between Ruslan Chagaev and Francesco Pianeta. With a secondary title at stake, the victor will have to honor not one but two mandatory challenges as ordered by the World Boxing Association (WBA).

Waiting in the wings will be former title challenger Fres Oquendo and unbeaten contender Lucas Browne.

The WBA is the worst sanctioning organization of all.

Chagaev and Oquendo should never have fought for the vacant belt. Neither is a top 25 HW at this stage in their careers.

Chagaev was top 5 at one time, but he became lazy and fat.

I'm astounded we gotta sit through Oquendo v Chagaev again man, I wish they'd ordered Browne vs Oquendo for the interim and then the winners face each other. At this point I'm hoping Ortiz comes into play before the mandatory is ordered again, if as expected Wladimir is still around that would be some test, a guy his own size with real power.

Sad that the boxing press has to treat fights like Chagaev-Pianeta or Chagaev-Oquendo (or Wilder-Molina) like they are legitimate heavyweight title fights when they know none of these guys belong in the ring with the real top dog. Oquendo is 42 and hasn't beaten a top 20 fighter in a decade or so. And it's been six years since Chagaev was bludgeoned by Klitschko and he hasn't gotten anything but old since then.

Not that I am interested in a Chagaev-Wlad fight. But if Chagaev is the WBA reg champ wouldn't that make him Wlad's mandatory? If so how did Fury slip to the front of the line? I guess its the WBA not even following their own ridiculously ****** rules.
