Comments Thread For: DeGale's Coach Reflects on Dirrell Win, Doubts Froch Bout

Jim McDonnell admitted to it being a “crazy time” following James DeGale’s points win over Andre Dirrell on May 23. The victory brought particular joy to McDonnell who has trained ‘Chunky’ for his entire professional career, overseeing the Londoner’s ascent to British, European and now world champion status in a high level super middleweight division.

“It was a long camp, probably a bit too long but it all paid off for him in the fight,” Jim told BoxingScene.

Rematch Dirrell beats him. DeGale is NOTHING special. Just like Kell Brook. Not special at all.

Rematch is another close fight between two of the best fighters in the division. Maybe Degale does better as he would have home advantage this time

Kell Brook has NOTHING to do with this story. Nothing at all.

WRONG, DeGale showed he is something special by schooling Dirrell on FOREIGN soil, just as Brook did to Porter, so STFU.

Both Brits who took the titles away from Yanks on American soil so that probably explains the bitterness.

DeGale hardly schooled Dirrell. Both of them were pretty sad in that fight and without the knockdowns, DeGale would have lost that fight. Neither of them did much at all in the middle rounds and neither one of them wins against Froch or Ward. Not that Ward would ever fight his 'brother', Dirrell.

DeGale can still improve in some areas. But the way he won the title against Dirrell on foreign soil was very impressive and deserving of respect.

The guy can flat out fight.
