Comments Thread For: Jhonny Gonzalez Returns 8/1, Will Compete At 130 Lbs.

With his title-losing knockout to Gary Russell Jr. now in the rearview mirror, Jhonny Gonzalez is ready to resume his career.

The former bantamweight and featherweight titlist will return to the ring on August 1 in Morelia, Mexico. He will now campaign in the junior lightweight division, with his first test at the weight coming versus Japan's Kazuki Hashimoto.

The bout was formally announced Wednesday evening by Promociones del Pueblo, Gonzalez' longtime promoter.

It sucks that Mares never wanted the rematch against Gonzalez, I've always felt like that fight was going to happen, Mares wanted nothing to do with Gonzalez and with Johnny moving up to 130. It's just one of those part two's that never took place.

This guy reminds me of Brian Viloria for one reason only, they go from a great performance to a bad performance to a great performance to a bad performance.

Good return bout 4 JG who still has punch but his confidence is another mattwr. Doubt he wins the title @'30 but it't will b a huge payday 4 him in Japan...I have more interest in Ceja who has improved his defense & w/his ko power should get a title chance by years end. Glad I've got televisa, good bouts...

Why would u want to see a rematch? Mares hasn't looked the same since Johnny took his soul in a round

I too was surprised that Mares didn't want a rematch or was all that keen on it. Then again, i don't blame...one of the best upset KO's ever!

Mares should pursue that rematch now. Jhonny won't be around for very long.
