  • Comments Thread For: Frampton-Gonzalez Jr. To Air Live On ITV In U.K.

Carl Frampton’s U.S. debut will be shown live on terrestrial channel ITV here in the U.K.

The TV station confirmed the news earlier today.

Frampton defends his IBF Super bantamweight title against Alejandro Gonzalez Junior at the Don Haskins Centre, Texas on the 18th of July. It will be televised from 9.45pm UK time, with ITV4 carrying the undercard from 9pm. The fight will be shown on CBS in the U.S.

Frampton (20-0, 14 early) has told viewers not to underestimate his opponent.

“I am delighted to be once again defending my World Title live on ITV on the 18th of July against Alejandro Gonzalez Jr,” Frampton said in a statement. “It is brilliant news that this fight will be shown live on ITV at primetime in the UK and live on CBS in the USA.

“Alejandro Gonzalez Jr. is a young and dangerous Mexican challenger and I am expecting a tough fight. I feel I am the best Super bantamweight in the world and I am excited to box in front of a huge television audience in the UK and USA.”

The 28-year-old is managed by Irish boxing legend Barry McGuigan, who believes his fighter is destined for greatness. “This is excellent news that Carl Frampton is defending his world title live on ITV at primetime in the UK.” [Click Here To Read More]

Gets his name out there, fair play to them! Frampton is already bigger than Quigg in the UK

I'm just glad Frampton is getting on the road. Gonzalez can box some and is durable. He should make Framton work, but why in Texas? El Paso in July can be as hot and miserable as that other famous place.

It's on the undercard of a Chavez Jr fight which is why it's in Texas.

Great opportunity for Frampton to get American and Mexican exposure.

Obviously the opponent is terrible but it's a showcase fight. Frampton is having to travel to chase down Santa Cruz when he's the draw out of the two

Hopefully this leads into that fight since they're both with Haymon now.

              That makes sense now.

Not holding out or LSC though. Wasn't he moving up?

He'll probably lose to Mares and then move back down.

Good news, Avalos was a fun fight and although this opponent is utter trash, it will be another good showcase fight to introduce him to the casual audience.

Good for Frampton, he cut the apron strings. Gonzalez is a decent tune up, test the water type of fight. El Paso might suit Frampton as Mexicans remember Los Patricios, Irish guys who joined the Mexicans. Lots of Irish history in the SW USA.
