  • Comments Thread For: Vasyl Lomachenko is Ready For Selby, Russell, Cuellar

Egis Klimas, manager of WBO featherweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (4-1, 2KOs) of Ukraine, says his fighter is still on pace to return on a date in November in Dubai. Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum is planning to stage a huge boxing event in Dubai in the fall.

Arum had wanted Lomachenko to face Nicholas Walters in a unification fight. Earlier this month that fight fell apart after Walters failed to make weight for a voluntary defense against Miguel Marriaga. Walters won the fight quite handedly, but it's already been decided that he intends to move up to super featherweight.

Russell will want a lot of money to jump back in with him. The others too.

Why do I sense we're seeing a Featherweight version of Rigondeaux here.

Still can't get over how Walters did not want to make weight or stay at 126 anymore just so he could avoid Lomachenko. He knew Loma was next, there's no excuses...... He literally vacated his championship belt to avoid Lomachenko.

Anyone else think Lomachenko would have an easy time against Cuellar and Selby?

Russell, Cuellar and the other Haymon fighters aren't going to fight Lomachenko, especially as there's no purse bid for Lomo to force a fight with them. Selby is going to milk his title in the UK.

Only major fight available for Lomachenko are going to be Rigo and Walters. Screw the belts for now. And like Crawford, Lomo should be fighting 3x a year, not once every 6 months.

I see no reason to believe a rematch with Russell would end any differently.

Against Selby, yes. Against Cuellar, not sure. Selby is the better boxer of the two but styles make fights, and Cuellar has the right style to give Lomachenko problems.
