Comments Thread For: Spence: Thurman or Porter - Same Result, Man Down!

Welterweight contender Errol Spence Jr. (17-0, 14KOs) is receiving a big push from WBC/WBA/WBO champion Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Mayweather is scheduled to return on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, and he wants Spence to be showcased on the undercard. Mayweather wants him to face either WBA 'regular' welterweight champion Keith Thurman or former beltholder Shawn Porter.

I can see why Floyd wants him. He reminds me of him earlier in his career. He has the talent but no one wants to face him. Once he gets that 1st name on his resume they he will be fine.

That is pure delusional. Spence Jr. at this point is no where near ready to face a guy like Thurman or Porter. Dude needs to build his resume/experience first before he goes asking for jobs he's no where near qualified to perform at yet

Thurman would be a tough fight, but let's not make Porter out to be a killer just because he beat Broner. He's still sloppy and easy to hit. Spence is bigger, stronger and punches harder than Broner, I wouldn't be surprised if Spence beat him handily.

Why?? Thurman has not really fought anyone and Porter is not very good at all. Stop acting like they are not wet behind the ears themselves

Damn , Floyd trying to get the kid killed.

I like him, but easy on callin for the Porters and Thurmans of the world. That's jumpin in the deep end a little too quick. Spence is a good example of an up and comer that should be stepping up and fighting a guy like Collazo instead of Thurman fighting him. Thurman Porter and those other guys are a bit higher level than that

Spence Jr. calling out Thurman and Porter AT THIS POINT is equivalent to a bus boy at a restaurant with two years experience saying he's ready to take on the manager position without a problem. Spence Jr. has skills, but has not proven them at the tiers above him for him to be in any position to be considered a candidate for these fights. But, just like in the business world if you know some one on the inside in a high position (e.g. Floyd) then they can hook you up with higher positions that you aren't qualified for. And that's what Floyd I'd doing here. He's using Spence Jr. as an enforcer to keep a guy like Thurman away from his business because there's a good chance that Thurman can hurt his brand/image. So not only is he using Spence Jr. as a pawn, he's also trying to try to rile up media and fans saying he's targeting Mayfield or Berto that way when he chooses Khan it becomes an easier option to accept.

I like Spence's confidence. But it's still early.
