Comments Thread For: Maskaev: Povetkin Can Knock Deontay Wilder Out Early

Former WBC heavyweight champion Oleg Maskaev talked to TASS media agency about Alexander Povetkin’s recent success and his chances against Deontay Wilder as well as a rematch with Wladimir Klitschko.

WBC #1 Povetkin (29-1, 21 KOs) is coming off an impressive first-round TKO over Mike Perez in the WBC final eliminator, while Wilder (34-0, 33 KOs), the reigning champion, has just stopped unheralded Eric Molina in nine, not-so-one-sided rounds.

Wilder is capable of knocking anyone out in the division, way too much power. But can he execute the mission to landing a perfect right hand? Before Povetkin unleashes on him?

This fight will be absolutely stunning. I can't wait!

Wilder is my favorite fighter, but I fear he might lose to Povetkin

          No.

Wilder definitely does NOT have as much power as Povetkin.

And Wilder does not have the power to knock out anybody in the division, particularly at top level!

Stiverne fight straight out proved that even over 12 rounds of landing constant flush power punches on a defenseless and severely ill opponent, he STILL couldn't knock him out.

Wilder has already been exposed in this sense.

I'll or not Stiverne still has an iron chin and Wilder never committed to throwing hardly anything to the body so Stiverne saw pretty much every punch coming. Povetkin would have probably ko'd Stiverne if it was him in there but I think it's because he actually knows how to break an opponent down.

He KOd Stiverne in the second and Stiverne did a double leg to be saved by the bell. He never really recovered. Wilder has insane power.

But Povetkin is scrappy but no way he has more power than Wilder..

Yeah I am not dis*****g any of what you wrote here, although I just want to point out that when you say Stiverne saw all those punches coming, that may be true but he didn't exercise his usual defensive slipping skills that I know he has used previously, he did take a lot of those big shots flush. His reactions were simply not there.

The guy having an iron chin may also be true of course but all I was asserting was that Wilder couldn't knock out "anybody" in the division.

I highly doubt Wilder could ever KO someone like Mariusz Wach either for example.
