Comments Thread For: Mayweather: Spence Should Fight Keith Thurman Next

Pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. (48-0, 26KOs) has a lot of respect for up and coming welterweight prospect Errol Spence Jr. (16-0, 13KOs).

Spence is scheduled to return on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as part of the Premier Boxing Champions telecast on NBC. He was set to fight Roberto Garcia, who withdrew from the fight on Wednesday due to weight issues. The current frontrunner to replace Garcia on short notice is welterweight contender Phil Lo Greco (26-1, 14 KOs) of Canada.

I see he has his promoter hat on nowadays. Judging by the way Haymon has been using promoters for his PBC, MP has access to some of the biggest stars in the sport. As long as he doesn't pull a De La Hoya and get too big for his britches MP might have a strong place in the industry.

Why? That is a bout you let bubble to make some big coin. Errol is the future of the sport though.

I'm almost positive the two will meet one day.

Judging by those comments, i doubt Thurman is on Mayweather's short-list for his next fight.

They will fight. Thurman wants to fight everyone and dont seem like the duck tye, same with Spence. Plus, both are young with something to prove.

I'm with that. I like Spence. He comes to do damage, not point fight.

F this. Mayweather trying to get the top 2 guys that look to replace him to knock one another off. That is a fight that needs to marinate. This isn't Leonard/Hearns I. Neither of these guys have been given any major fights yet, especially Spence. Let these two knock off all the pretenders first like Danny Garcia, Khan, Broner, Berto, even Porter.

I'd like to see Spence get the Khan fight. They're moving him way too slow, they need to push the kid to help him develop.

All too often Haymon feeds guys like Spence & J-Rock these low-level mismatches, and the other guys drop out at the last second only to be replaced by even lower-level fighters. Ultimately they're not getting the developmental fights they need.
