Comments Thread For: Ward Sure He Can Still Make Super Middleweight Limit

Andre Ward hasn’t decided if his fight against Paul Smith will represent a temporary move up to light heavyweight.

Ward, who’ll face England’s Smith at a catch weight of 172 pounds, is convinced, however, that he’ll be able to get down to 168 pounds again if he opts to defend his WBA super middleweight championship later this year. The 31-year-old Ward (27-0, 14 KOs) hasn’t fought in 19 months, which led to making Smith agree to meet him between the super middleweight and light heavyweight limits on Saturday night at Oracle Arena in Oakland, Calif. (BET; 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT).

No surprise here: Ward isn't remotely interested in challenging himself against the world's best light heavyweights.

Then why didn't he make it for this fight?
He had 19 months to stay in shape.

KafKod, where are you? This clearly shows that Ward still wants that GGG fight. This is another signal to K2 to start negotiations. Basically GGG can be the B-side to Ward, or the A-side to TBD. I was just trying to illustrate this to an idiot ("funny style" or something like that) on another thread!

GGG plans to fight in September. Does Ward? Is Ward finished with his tune ups?

Is Geducky finished with his? He's had 33 of them now and he's also 33 years old. Time for Geducky to face quality.

You're so ******. I said you might "WANT" GGG to change plans, not "GO TELL GGG TO CHANGE PLANS." It's ignorant fans like you who give boxing a bad name. You "WANT" GGG to act like he's the man, and fight a nobody in September instead of moving that date in pursuit if a mega-fight with Andre Ward! GGG should beat Ward first, THEN act like an "A-Side" fighter, making demands, etc. Until he beats a real champion, he can't do ****!

Its those last few pounds that can be the hardest to lose. He has been at 168 for so long Hopefully he still has plenty left. If his timing is on, everything else will follow.
