  • Comments Thread For: Lederman: Cotto, Canelo Have No Shot To Beat Golovkin

HBO has had three of it's more popular fighters, Miguel Cotto, Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, and Gennady "GGG" Golovkin win by knockout in the past two months.

Cotto knocked out Daniel Geale in four rounds. Golovkin stopped Willie Monroe Jr. in six rounds. And right before those two bouts took place, Canelo dispatched James Kirkland in three.

A mix and match of those three fighters is what the network desires and more importantly what the fans want.

With all due respect to Harold Lederman, how can guy who has never been in a boxing gym, never mind in the ring, who on several occasions has gotten it wrong judging fights for HBO, talk with certainty that Canelo Alvarez and Miguel Cotto have no shot against GGG? He might be right, but I personally don't think he's an authority on boxing. I am nearly as old as he is, and have seen stranger things happen in the ring. This is boxing.

Gotta say for once I agree with Lederman, I'm pretty sure GGG will crush both Cotto & Canelo..That's they are avoiding GGG like if he was infected with the ebola virus..

          Canelo beats GGG.

Cotto has a good chance against GGG. Should be no worse than a slight underdog.

that's probably why he's been so eager to fight them....Cotto is a JMW with a MW hustle atm....Nelo camping out in his own weight class

hah...Canelo will give GGG trouble. He has that heart. Cotto gets weak minded and gives up on himself. Its been this way his entire career. You can tell this about how much he praises Freddie when its Cotto himself doing all the work.

He says Freddie helped him believe in himself...So whats gonna happen when you begin to get beat up or hit the canvas? He will begin to second guess himself and THAT is something you DONT need to do with a fighter like GGG!!!

Canelo doesn't have that problem. He believes in himself and he has that youth to go along with it. Canelo/GGG would be a nice fight. But it should not happen before Canelo/Cotto fight it out!

I love seeing guys who post on an Internet message board talk about how a Hall of Fame boxing commentator and analyst knows less about the fight game than they do. It just totally breaks me up. You may not like Lampley, you may not agree with his opinion, but if you think you know more than he does, then why are you not making your living in the boxing business and why are you not being inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame? And don't bother replying to this post because it is obvious that you are an idiot and anything you can post will just make you look worse.

I agree, GGG is too big, too strong.

i don't think either of them would be able to live with golovkin's pressure and arsenal for a full twelve rounds, but i reckon they could both have success landing big shots on him and making the action appear competitive for the first half of the fight.
