BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Jake Donovan and other members of the press catch up with WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder, who successfully defended his title with a ninth-round knockout of Eric Molina on Saturday night at Bartow Arena.

Wilder (34-0) delivered a right hand that turned Molina around and sent him falling on his back. The referee quickly signaled that the fight was over, probably several rounds later than many observers anticipated with Wilder a heavy favorite.

I was the one who had really high hopes for Wilder. However, after last nights performance I cannot see Wilder as being a dominant heavyweight. He has many holes in his game (wild shots, moving backwards, and inability to effectively cut off the ring). Molina was knocked out in the 1st by Arreola. I know styles make fights but it should not have take 9 rounds. Someone with the same height or a bit taller will take advantage of wilder when he is moving backwards. Chin is not an issue for Wilder, I dont care who you are getting hit solid by a heavyweight will rattle anyone. I actually think his chin is pretty decent took some big shots from Stiverne and Molina and adapted well. I am not a fan of either of the Klitchkos but I don't think their will be as dominant heavyweights as them for awhile. Perhaps Anthony Joshua but its hard to assess him yet cuz of lvl of comp. I would love for an American to be the dominant in the division. The truth is tall American with great athletic abilities 201+ are not boxing they are either playing basketball or football. Russians and British fighters have taken this division by storm just being honest and real.

Please just lose the "like I said" thing and you're fine!

It was great from Wilder to give recognition to Molina for being A FIGHTER, for being so brave. I agree with him when he says that fighters should come to fight, one will fight his heart out to take the title away from the champ, and the champ will do his part to keep the title. That is the way it should be.

But the thing I just couldn't stand from Wilder was that annoying use of the phrase "like I said". Like so many other people, he repeats it too many times and actually in a mistaken way, because he actually hasn't said anything yet about what he is supposedly repeating.

I hope his PR team notices this issue so it doesn't happen again in any of his future interviews or press conferences!
