Comments Thread For: Photos: Lee Haskins Snags IBF Gold With TKO of Iwasa

Bristol’s Lee “Playboy” Haskins (118lbs) and Japan’s Ryosuke Iwasa (117.25lbs) both vied for a world title for the first time when going for the vacant interim IBF World bantamweight title in an all-southpaw clash.

Haskins won the British and EBU titles en route to his world title challenge; his co-challenger’s only loss came against current WBC World titlist Shinsuke Yamanaka, a 10th-round TKO reverse in March 2011.

Channel 5 televised the contest; they warned viewers to watch out for scenes of “violence”—a bemusing disclaimer and something of a sleight on the sport of boxing from TV’s version of The Daily Mail.

I don't think there has ever been a period in British boxing with so many world champions. For American posters to get an idea, I think California has a similar population as Britain so it would be as if California had 10/11/12 (truth is I have lost count) World Champions all at the same time.
Yes I know there are so many belts but even so it is amazing. The only other country/state that transcends Britain for making so many champions is P.R. That too is amazing. I guess Cuba is close behind.

Good job by Haskins, i didn't fancy him in this one.
It was a nice shot that set up the finish to the fight.

I couldnt realy pick this one so just picked the away guy by decision. Be interesting if they can get caballero over, caballero would probably be favourite though im guessing.

I know what you're saying and the UK is on a run but this is an interim belt and in no way is Haskins a "world champion" for winning this fight, any more than Wilder is a heavyweight champion. Haskins owns a secondary belt for a sanctioning body. But it's still a nice win for him, with or without the "world champion" talk
