They're not getting a deal. Cotto will never fight GGG and Oscar said that fight is 2 years away.

My question is why doesn't The Ring strip Cotto since it has been a year between his fight and the title was not on the line then?

They should have done that months ago.

Probably the same reason Ward was champ for nearly 2 years without a fight. They just stripped him a few months ago.

The Ring won't strip for something like that. It's more than a year, I don't remember exactly how long but they state as long as the fighter has a fight SCHEDULED within that time frame they are good and Cotto met that criteria so he shouldn't have been stripped.

But yeah, Golovkin shouldn't settle for step aside money they should at least try to get something in writing, if not from Canelo or Cotto at the very least the WBC so that way they can have something they could legally use against the WBC to get a shot at the belt. Even if it's vacant, whatever, the goal here is to unify.
