Comments Thread For: Geale Capable of Upsetting Miguel Cotto, Says Maniatis

Well known Australian promoter Peter Maniatis believes that if the agreed upon 157 pound catch-weight could hinder Daniel Geale in his middleweight title fight against Miguel Cotto on Saturday at the Barclays Center in New York.

But, he said Geale “doesn’t have massive power to overwhelm Cotto but could surprise people because the Australian is a capable fighter and is definitely Australia’s best fighter today.”

I don't know. The thing that really made Trout competitive with Cotto was not only did he have a size advantage like Geale, but Trout had speed. He had the hand speed to land shots on Miguel to keep Cotto hesitant and back him off, but he had reaction time to see alot of shots coming and move away or atleast brace for the shots.

Even without being weight drained, Geale never had the hand/eye speed on level with Cotto like Trout did. And Geale's not a big puncher to where Cotto's going to be scared to just rush in.

I can't forget how Geale was always getting beat to the punch by Barker, he just didn't have the tools to adjust. I'm afraid we'll see a late stoppage in favor of Cotto, pumping up a Cotto/Alvarez ppv.
