  • Comments Thread For: Linares Praises Mitchell, Hopes To Return in September

WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares (39-3, 26KOs) put on a great performance last Saturday night in London, when he came from behind to gain a sensational knockout victory over Kevin Mitchell (39-3).

Linares was knocked down in the fight round and lost a few of the earlier rounds, but he came back strong down the stretch by badly swelling up the left eye of Mitchell and then stopping him after a knockdown in the tenth.

        "Mitchell is a southpaw"
No he's not. Must've been something lost in translation.

Burns is DONE. He couldn't even beat Zlaticanin.

Nah, I don't think Burns would beat Linares.

No wonder you were too scared to bet me. You lost your measly little 26 quid. Gonna have to be a lean June in the knockedoutkid's household.

Linares is a truly fantastic fighter.

This is the first time he's got hurt (and dropped) and managed to avoid falling apart, instead he calmly regrouped and came back strong.

He's a tremendously gifted fighter, if he can continue to stay composed when he gets clipped he will be extremely difficult to beat.

Nothing but respect for Mitchell though, he fought a great fight against a top opponent and showed a ton of heart. Both guys were terrific.

I don't even think he was that hurt from the KD. He just used his experience of being down before to sit out the 8 count instead of bouncing straight back up. His legs were good when he got up and he was pressuring Mitchell towards the end of the same round.

Mitchell did better than I expected. He could win a world title if he fights like that against an easier champion.

Linares is the best Lightweight in the world - I'm gutted we didn't get to see him and Crawford fight.

Immense respect for Mitchell and he's had a great reception. Or those that were saying that he would win on the cards if he survived the last ten seconds, that is false as they have to include round 10 and it would have been a draw.

Yeah, watching it back I think he was fine. Watching it live, the way he went to his knees suggested he was in trouble, but within 25 seconds he was landing good punches and, as you said, began pushing Mitchell back. Was nice to see him react calmly.

Its unfortunate for Mitchell that the one time he got it right, mentally and stylistically, on the big stage came against the best opponent possible. Had he done that against Katsidis or Burns he'd have won a world title.

I'm a big fan of Linares' style, can't see anyone at lightweight beating him.
