Comments Thread For: Garcia Feels Well-Trained Chavez Jr. Can Be Champ

Trainer Robert Garcia wants discipline and hard work ethic from former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (48-2-1, 32KOs), who returns on July 18th against Marcos Reyes in El Paso, Texas. Showtime is being reported as the television outlet.

Chavez returned in April after a one year layoff and got knocked out by Andrzej Fonfara in nine rounds. After the fight Chavez admitted that he made a mistake in moving up by two weight classes to 175-pounds and facing a top contender in that division.

Garcia Sr. should get permission from Chavez Sr. to whoop his son in the gym with the chanklas.

JR will never be one of the greats like his pops... his record looks good and all but it's mostly against tomato cans and his wins are against class B fighters at best... if he would have finished sergio he would've had more respect from his fans and prestige in the eyes of the media but he's got KO'd and thoroughly outclassed by Maravilla. unless garcia is a miracle worker I don't see JR ever beating any big names, and he's best to stay away from the likes of ward, froch, and GGG. I'd even go as far as to say if floyd moved up to MW or LHW that Money could walk away with a decision on him in his own weight class!

Chavez Jr does not like boxing, he clearly has no passion for it despite his abilities. Getting him well-trained is nearly impossible and getting him motivated is impossible. There are no real champions anymore with all the alphabet belts, stop pretending that these fake belts matter, they don't. The fans know the best because the best fight and beat the best, they don't need accessories to prove it.

I really hope that JCC jr do it serious this time. that could save him from being the shame of his family.

He has the chin and good body frame for 168 to be a good boxer/fighter, why not use that "resources"

              Damn.

i actually think he belongs in 160 despite his weight ballooning

I suspect that if he was a dude who was in shape, he would be comfortable at 160. He would be big for sure, but when he fights and comes in at 180+ he just looks fat. Big canckles, no muscle, no definition. He's just overweight, not big.

For comparison's sake, Canelo comes in at 172 and looks strong as an oak.

he's also not a good boxer. watching him shadowbox, hit mitts, spar, you see that he's just not very experienced / schooled.

junior had stuf going for him at 160. he was gigantic, could take a punch, and had power. at 168, 175, 200, whatever the hell his real, drug free weight is, he's not even capable of beating contenders.

Grasping @ straws is Garcia...Jr doesn't have the talent 2b champ, xcept the 1 the WBC gave him. After that last bout I question his heart & w/the amount of shots he gets hit w/a power puncher takes him out...
