HOUSTON - Super welterweight world champion Erislandy "The American Dream" Lara (20-2-2, 12 KOs) is wrapping up his final days of training camp in anticipation of his Premier Boxing Champions on Spike debut taking place at UIC Pavilion in Chicago on Friday, June 12.

This edition of PBC on Spike begins at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Doors at UIC Pavilion open at 5 p.m. CT with the first fight set for 5:30 p.m. CT.

Before escaping communist Cuba, where Lara had to swim in dangerous waters to reach freedom, he was a decorated international amateur champion, winning numerous titles against some of today's champions. He has followed his dream of becoming a world champion and now looks to build on his legacy.

    i bet lara whoops him.

i bet that dude is an absolute beast in the gym. he's coming out of a state run, cuban amateur program. gloves and headgear is the language you speak down there. short fights, too. those kids on the cuban national and olympic team have been in a gym since they were in grade school.

It's odd to see 3 high level fighters, all rated in the top 10 of the same division as regular sparring partners in the same gym.

It's easy for Lara to call out Golovkin whilst being an Al Haymon fighter who fights on PBC.

It's not like Golovkin ducking his mandatory or not willing to fight the number one contender of his division. Golovkin earned his shot to fight for WBC and The Ring belt. What has Lara done except for calling him out? By the way Golovkin's promoter, Loeffler, said Lara can get some.
