Comments Thread For: Negotiations Underway For Arroyo-Villanueva Title Fight

After South Africa's Zolani Tete vacated the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super flyweight title, #1 ranked McJoe Arroyo, from Puerto Rico, will face #3 ranked Arthur Villanueva, from Philippines, for the vacant belt, possibly on July 18 in the United States.

Tete (20-3, 17 KOs) would defend his belt against Arroyo (16-0, 8 KOs) this summer, but negotiations were unsuccessful and after an IBF purse bid held recently—won by Golden Boy Promotions—the boxer from South Africa didn't accept the terms for the fight and vacated the title. Well deserved shot for McJoe Arroyo - he had to fight two consecutive elimination bouts that were supposed to guarantee an immediate title shot and now has had to wait while negotiations dragged. I've always felt he was the more talented of the two brothers though McWilliams seems the bigger puncher. I think McWilliams' reliance on his power is what cost him in his title fight (especially after that wicked knockdown) as he wasn't as active as he should have been late, making a very winnable fight closer than it should have been.

You're as predictable as a dead worm. Every Puerto Rican that ever lost a close decision was robbed according to you. How many more years are you going to be blinded with bias??? It's one thing to have national pride, its another to hate everything that is not a part of that national pride to the point of being blind.

Good question. He displayed legit skills but after stopping tough Daniel 'Alacran' Lozano nearly two years ago (!) he appears to have vanished.

lol So what happened w/Tete figured he just decided to move up but now this says issues with money so they offered him pennies on the nickel and he turned it down?

Not to often you see a guy just willingly give up a belt like that especially someone who isn't going to find it easy to get other big fights.
