Comments Thread For: Golden Boy VP: Humberto Soto To Remain on HBO Bill

If it wasn't for bad luck, junior welterweight contender Humberto Soto wouldn't have any at all. He was slated to face Frankie Gomez on Many 9th as the co-feature on HBO from Houston, Texas when Saul Alvarez took on James Kirkland. Gomez came in well over the 141-pound weight limit, scrapping the bout.

Then Soto was scheduled to face Ray Beltran on June 27th as the opening bout on HBO from the StubHub Center in Carson, California before Tim Bradley-Jesse Vargas. But on Friday it was reported that Beltran had failed his drug test for his May 1st fight against Takahiro Ao, knocking him out of this bout as he has been indefinitely suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

This would be a great opportunity for another Top Rank fighter at 140. Man, that would be great to see Mikey come out on short notice for this one. Ain't happening though.

yeah! soto deserves a payday. 75ish fights. hundreds of rounds. some wars. the dude is on borrowed time. you can't get him a time machine, at least pay him.

f#cking frakie gomez can quit boxing for all i care.

there was a rumor that gomez wanted to quit after he got his first 6 figure contract from GBP after the olympics.

i think it's pretty obvious now that it was legit.

Yeah **** Frankie Gomez, I regret ever rooting for that low life ****, he can stay out of boxing for all I care too.

The Soto's vs Beltran fight would've been good too but turns out Beltran is a major cheat so **** him too he can stay out, we don't need steroid using cheaters in our sport.

Yeah, the news came out recently. It sucks for Soto, like you said on your previous post, Humberto really is on borrowed time.

I hope he lands a good payday before heading off into the sunset. I'm not sure if Marquez is still up for one more fight but at this stage in both of the vets careers, I wouldn't mind a combination punching showdown. Both men are aggressive combination punchers with good power. I'm sure Marquez would be professional enough regarding the rules and regulations and Soto would make a good payday.

              I could only dream...

if either guy has anything in the tank, that's a fight i'd like to see. i'm not sure how much soto has left, or how motivated marquez is, but i'd still chance it. i'm not HBO, obviosuly, who would have to pay a lot to "chance it."

do it in mexico, and put them on HBO. sounds like a good fight! very good offensive fighters, those two. both are not only pleasing on the eyes, but effective / dangerous.

It would be awesome if it was Crawford, but that's probably too short notice for that big of a star.

It'll be interesting to see who they end up getting to face him.

It was earlier reported that they looked at Antonio Orozco, but he couldn't do it because he has a cut.

Top Rank did just sign Lenny Z, but it looks like he turned it down too.

Not sure how HBO and GBP would feel about taking Mauricio Herrera off of the HBO Latino card against Hank Lundy, but maybe that would be an option, as Herrera would likely make significantly more against Soto.

They could always revisit Frankie Gomez. lol
