Milan Melindo who lost a twelve round decision to tough and talented Mexican Juan Francisco Estrada in a battle for the WBO/WBA flyweight titles in Macau on July 27, 2013 has easily dropped down to light flyweight and has earned a crack at IBF champion Javier Mendoza in Mexico on May 30.

ALA Promotions patron Tony Aldeguer told the New Standard/BoxingScene.com that Melindo who has been training at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles under trainer Edmund Villamor and strength and conditioning coach Nick Curson is in super condition and “better than he’s ever been.” [Click Here To Read More]

Melindo is a great little fighter in his own right and could pose a serious threat to Mendoza, whom isn't too technically gifted. Mendoza needs to play off of Melindo's willingness to get dragged into a firefight and work the body of the Filipino wonder kid. Melindo's hand speed, accuracy and combinations will trouble Mendoza without a doubt but Milan is lacking considerably in the fire power department. If Mendoza can overcome Melindo's hand speed, he might be in a serious situation, since Mendoza can punch with the best.

I'm personally leaning towards Melindo snatching away the belt from Mendoza but I can't discount Javier and his monstrous power. Mendoza needs to stay on his toes, I remember Estrada mentioning Milan's sneaky power and that Melindo broke his jaw in their fight in the early rounds. We shall see how this turns out, but an interesting fight nonetheless. Perhaps one of the best match ups this year, thus far.
