Comments Thread For: Hugo Ruiz-Nonito Donaire Title Eliminator In Jeopardy?

Yet another promising matchup destined for a purse bid is now on the verge of falling by the wayside.

An ordered fight between Nonito Donaire and Hugo Ruiz – which was to determine the next mandatory challenger for unbeaten 122 lb. titlist Leo Santa Cruz – is scheduled to head to purse bid on Friday at the World Boxing Council (WBC) headquarters in Mexico City. However, Top Rank has informed ESPN.com of its plans to steer Donaire in a different direction, likely in a stay busy fight on its next show in Macau this coming July.

Arum knows nonito will loose this fight and that noni was nothing special to begin with. Arum is going to put him in with a nobody in China.

Looks like this fight isn't taking place...Top Rank going another direction.

      Dan Rafael:

Junior featherweight contender Nonito Donaire (34-3, 22 KOs), 32, a former four-division titleholder and the 2012 fighter of the year, will fight a 10-rounder on the undercard, likely against low-level French opponent Anthony Settoul (20-3, 8 KOs), 28.
However, Arum said Top Rank and Donaire will not take part. Arum said Donaire would instead fight on the Macau card and, if he wins, Arum said there is a good chance he will be able to arrange a title fight for him against either England's Scott Quigg or Carl Frampton of Northern Ireland.
Top Rank says Chinese 140-pounder Ik Yang will square off with Cesar Rene Cuenca from Argentina for the junior welterweight world title July 18 at the Venetian Macao's Cotai Arena in Macau.
