Comments Thread For: HBO's Nelson Sees "Chocolatito" in Network's Future

WBC flyweight champion Roman Gonzalez played to rave reviews in blowing out Edgar Sosa in two rounds at the Forum this past weekend in what was his HBO debut. And with that type of outing, 'Chocolatito' cemented his standing with the network, which hasn't traditionally broadcast fights at this weight class.

Peter Nelson, the V.P. of Programming for HBO Sports told BoxingScene.com - "I think everyone's clamoring to see him again as soon as possible and the kid stays in shape, he likes fighting frequently. He's a fighter that commands respect."

Gonzalez's accuracy is amazing. Grant it his opponent looked like he crapped his pants at the introduction, it was a good win. I just dont like how they want to use Roman Gonzalez in a supporting role, I think (if properly managed) there are plenty of good/great small Mexican and Japanese fighters for him to become his own entity. If GGG's so great, he souldnt need a 112lb fighter to support him. A rematch with Estrada or a match up with Ionue would have GGG fighting on the undercard unless he fights Canelo but then itd be Canelos show anyway...

So long as his second job as a jockey doesn't interfere with boxing. Tough to get excited in a weight class with zero competition. No vision looking foward.

You should have seen him in your future a few years ago, then we wouldn't have needed to watch him on ****ty ass Nicaraguan TV streams with the production quality of an early 90's high school AV club.
