Comments Thread For: Porter Discusses Catch-Weight Terms For Broner Clash

Former IBF welterweight titlist Shawn Porter faces Adrien Broner on June 20th in a battle of Ohio that will curiously take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. But while both combatants have competed as welterweights, this contest will be taking place at a catch-weight.

"The weight limit is 144-pounds plus a pound, give or take," said Kenny Porter, Shawn's father and trainer who is well aware of the tactics taking place.

"They're trying to bring us down to try to hurt us and they asked for a second-day weigh-in," continued the elder Porter. "The day of the fight we have to weigh-in, again." [Click Here To Read More]

i can see why people would be upset and not giving broner benefit of doubt in this situation but lets be real here. if he didnt do this and he fought him strait up at 147 porter would be so much bigger then broner fight night the fight would be pointless. porter is a big dude and broner is not a 147 fighter. he got ****y moved up to 147 skipping 140 and look what happened in the maidana fight. im a broner fan and honestly i dont see how this fight could be made any other way. if porter didnt like the terms they should not of signed it period. Its not mayweather or pac man were talking about its broner its not like mayweather or pac where fighters have no say. if porter didnt like the terms then he shouldnt of signed the contract and i completely understand why broner would want these weight clauses in the contract otherwise porter would just be to big and the fight would be pointless

nonsense. Plenty of fights that could have been made for Broner at 140, like Garcia, Petersen, Provo, Hererra, Postol, etc. No need to dry out a guy that already struggles and has to get a colonic just to make 147.

Its OK for the CW but now the re-hydration clause is some b*tch move. If Broner thought he was too big he should have stayed at 140. Noww hes too big for 140 so he is fighting at 144 and havind a fight day weigh in? B*tch move...

I'm not a big fan of Porter's trainer so him blowing off the catchweight and second weigh-in like they'll be just fine is concerning to me.

It's a real shame that they had to put a catchweight on this, and the rehydration limit is pathetic. It's a damn good fight, but there's too high a chance Porter will be drained.

Must be nice to be 1 of Haymons favorites. Thurman rehydrates to SMW and nothing is said but Porter (the bastard child) of Haymons WW division cant move up more than 10lbs. This will probably come to bite Broner in the @$$ though because I wouldnt be surprised if Broner weighs more than Porter right now but I wonder if the re-hydration clause is only for Porter, I wouldnt be surprised if it was. If the weight doesnt effect Porter, I see him grinding out a hard but clear cut decision 115-113 or 116-111. Broner can win if he counter punches off the shoulder roll, he looked awkward fighting on his toes and hes to small at WW to be the aggressor.
