Comments Thread For: Abraham-Stieglitz Part Four is Official For July 18th

The fight is now official. Arthur Abraham (42-4, 28 KO's) will defend his WBO super middleweight title against mandatory challenger Robert Stieglitz (47-4-1, 27 KO's) on July 18 at Gerry Weber Stadium in Halle / Westfalen, Germany.

They first met in 2012, with Abraham capturing the WBO super middleweight title from Stieglitz with a twelve round unanimous decision. They met again the following year with Stieglitz reclaiming the WBO title from Abraham with a fourth round stoppage due to a badly injured eye on King Arthur. A trilogy meeting was then last for last March, with Abraham clinching the victory, and the WBO, by dropping Stieglitz in the twelfth and final round for a split decision win.

It isn't a bad match up and has proved an exciting fight in the past. Had Sturm have defeated Stieglitz we'd be watching Sturm across the ring from him already.

The WBO are one of the least consistent bodies and the belt is somewhat considered less meaningful, Abraham is fighting at a competitive level, it would appear that would be leagues behind the likes of Ward, Froch and Kessler.

You don't need to reckon, it's gonna happen regardless of Felix losing Saturday. The WBA belt was just a stake for the WBA to get their hands on some of the pot of gold at the end of this rainbow, trying to make a it look a unification just made it look an even more attractive fight.

Maybe now we'll see Sturm fight the loser to set up another potential fight against the winner after this proposed Sturm vs the Stieglitz Abraham winner. Either way Sturm needs to find himself to stimulate his career as he hasn't had a win in over a year in which the win was basically a retirement, and three fights on the winless streak, one of which fights being a draw which I felt was overly generous to himself. You have to go back to mid summer 2013 to find his last convincing victory.

It's a shame to see Felix go on and out like this after having had such a strong career, after the Zbik win I really thought wow he has recaptured his best form, maybe that was his ceiling right there.
