Comments Thread For: N.J. Commish: May-Pac Officials Can't 'Screw It Up'

LAS VEGAS – Larry Hazzard is as eager to see Mayweather-Pacquiao as anyone.

One of boxing’s most respected regulators will watch the long-awaited welterweight title fight from a different vantage point, though. Above all else, New Jersey’s boxing commissioner hopes nothing controversial happens when the sport’s two biggest stars collide Saturday night at MGM Grand in Las Vegas (HBO/Showtime Pay-Per-View; $99.95 in HD; 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT).

    Hopefully they don't.

If they did, that would leave a black eye on the sport of boxing.

Never underestimate boxing's tendency to drive fans away with terrible refs or judging. Bayless should be good, but the judges are a huge worry IMO.

The judges are gonna be so paranoid about not wanting to be "the one" that screws up the biggest fight that they'll all score every round 10-10.

        A 120-120 draw!

I'd have no problem with them scoring all close rounds 10-10, judges should do it all the time instead of feeling the need to give it to someone.

            I agree completely with Hazzard.

This is a huge opportunity to put boxing back on a high pedestal. We don't want to ruin that moment.

I also agree about people thinking boxing is still corrupt because the general population that don't follow it and only a big fight here and there always talk about the judges being paid off, blah blah. It's almost an immediate reaction to associate boxing and corruption when spoken about it if you don't follow the sport.

I understand we've had plenty of bogus decisions in the past, but they aren't always due to corruption but rather bad officiating.

We do not need this tomorrow night.

Not screw it up = Translation.

Don't give the fight to Mayweather regardless of rather its a wide decision or a close decision.

Lets not pretend that this has anything to do with being fair to Mayweather.
