Comments Thread For: Khan, Hatton Discuss Mayweather-Pacquiao Trainers

Ricky Hatton has questioned the wisdom of Floyd Mayweather’s decision to once again be trained by his father.

Mayweather senior will train his son for the highly-anticipated fight against Manny Pacquiao on May 2 having reunited after a public falling-out in 2000.

Hatton was trained by Mayweather senior for his victory over Paulie Malignaggi in 2008 but the coach was also in his corner for the Pacquiao bout a year later, in which the Mancunian was knocked out in the second round in a devastating display by the multi-weight world champion.

Mayweather senior is renowned as being an excellent defensive coach but Hatton is unconvinced of his skills beyond that and is left with particularly grim memories of his humbling at the hands of Pacquiao.

Hatton was mainly trained by some guy when he fought Pacquiao. He wouldnt do anything Floyd Sr said and Floyd Sr even came late on fight night because he had not much to do so Hatton cant say stuff about Sr. Everyone saw what Floyd Jr did to Canelo, he was listening to his father. In the Maidana fight Floyd Jr didnt want a game plan and we all saw what happened. When fighters listen to Floyd Sr their life becomes very easy in the ring. Floyd Sr is a genius. As we speak Jr has many plans, people shouldnt forget Pacuqiao doesnt even know how to clinch and a lot more. All I can say in this fight is Floyd Jr will beat the shiat out of Pacquiao.

Hatton need to zip it. Floyd Sr was telling him to move his damn head and work behind the jab and not to bum rush Pacquiao, but he wouldn't listen and fought his fight and was clocked.

I dont think Sr and Hatton were a good fit, i think Hattons style is just all wrong for a trainer like Sr. That said, it was still Hattons fault Pac KOd him. Coming in face 1st and hooking with his jaw straight up in the air was all Hatton. Although i do like KOs, i wishthis fight woulda went a little longer

Well, Sr. gave Hatton the right advice in between rounds against Manny. Hatton just ignored the instructions and went face-first into Manny's bomb.

I guess that would leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
