Comments Thread For: DeGale: Last Time I Was The Villain, Now Groves Is

Olympic gold medal winner James DeGale (20-1, 14KOs) is expecting a very tough contest when he faces Andre Dirrell (24-1, 16KOs) for the vacant IBF super middleweight world title on May 23rd in Boston. The belt was vacated earlier this year by Carl Froch.

He told Sky Sports: “Once you’ve won the title it’s about building and unifying, and being in those great, exciting fights. That’s what I plan to do, but first I need to get past Dirrell which is a hard, hard task in itself. I’m confident in doing that and after, it will get bigger and bigger.

I'd have to agree with JD here. He came across badly before the first fight because of the genuine needle between him and GG, which Groves handled it better.

However, DeGale seems to have matured a lot in & out of the ring whereas Groves gets more arrogant every time he appears on telly!

DeGale to win by late stoppage at this point in their respective careers would be my prediction

      Absolutely.

Groves has looked terrible since getting flattened by Froch. His power seems to have diminished, the snap isn't there and he is wide open. Loose is the best word to describe him post-Froch. Then out of the ring it looks like that right hand from Froch punched all sense out of him, he is completely deluded.

DeGale has been improving with each fight and saying the right things. He'll be the crowd favourite, bookies favourite and will most likely stop Groves.

I really hope Degale and Groves can beat the Dirrell Bros this year, and set up a massive London unification for summer 2016... I'm not 100% confident either of them will though. Think Degale will lose a tight decision, maybe even a dodge homecooked one... And Groves really has looked massively out of sorts since getting sparked at Wembley, he needs to sort his head out ASAP or he won't beat Anthony D.

Who cares if Degale is liked or not? Don't see why he cares.

I guess it drains on you mentally to be booed when the fighting is real unlike pro-wrestling.

It took a huge bid to have the fight staged in the States and that kind of investment means, imo, that DeGale has to either get Andre Dirrell out of there or inflict some real damage along the way, eye catching stuff the judges will find hard to ignore, to have much chance of copping a decision. Dirrell is highly skilled, though, and it will be mighty impressive if DeGale can dominate enough to leave those judges with little choice but to score it in his favour.
