Comments Thread For: Frampton-Quigg: McGuigan Hopes Fight Happens in June

Former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan believes that Floyd Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao isn’t the only big unification fight we’ll see this year. McGuigan is optimistic that IBF Super bantamweight titlist Carl Frampton, who he manages, will face WBA World counterpart Scott Quigg in the summer to partially unify the division.

‘This is the direction of travel in which boxing is going,’ he wrote in today's Daily Mirror column. ‘Mayweather/ Pacquiao will not be the last superfight we see this year. The major boxing organisations are finally waking up to the value of seeing champions face off. You can put Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg into that category. Negotiations are taking place. Hopefully things happen in June.’

This makes a fantastic contest & a truly 100% eliminator to see who face's the true #1 champion @ 122Lb Guillermo Rigondeaux. McGuigan avoided both Brian Mitchell & Azuma Nelson, so has lots of experience of slipping a genuine fight. I'm sure Gary Hyde is waiting by the phone with baited breath!!

"Vie for the right to tackle Guillermo Rigondeaux"? At least you recognised he is the division's number one fighter. Quigg moves up to 126lbs regardless by fall of 2015. Frampton's team steer him away from Rigondeaux.
