Comments Thread For: Boxer puts down dinner, takes fight on two-hours notice

Stockport’s Jamie "Devil Child" Quinn had Spaghetti Bolognese for dinner on Saturday night then decided to take his dog for a quiet stroll to walk off his meal. One text message and two hours later he was in the ring with Manchester's Zelfa Barrett at Middleton Arena after Barrett’s original opponent, Scotland’s Michael Stupart, had to withdraw on the night due to a cold sore, which is deemed a contagious virus by the BBBoC and therefore ruled him out of the four-threes contest.

The bill had been hit with the withdrawals of Blaise Mendouo, because of a licensing issue, and Billy "The Kid" Rehman, hand injury, so had been trimmed down to four fights featuring local favourites. [Click Here To Read More]

He's 1-10-1 so he really had nothing at all to lose and a few bucks to make. It's not like a loss was going to damage his reputation.

It's definitely a great story. I don't care what his record is, this guy is certainly a fighter. People tend to forget how dangerous this sport can potentially be.

This guy is a professional opponent. Not even trying to win. His bigger concern was not getting cut which would endanger his fight this weekend.

The UK scene embraces this approach much more than US. It's an interesting facet to the sport but I don't care for it, personally. A lot of the fights feel like sparring sessions except that fans are paying to watch. I'm also not sure it's doing to A-side fighter any favors if he isn't encountering an opponent that is trying to win.

Look up Karl Taylor's record. Fascinating list of opponents, but what was a victory over him worth?
