Comments Thread For: Shannon Briggs: Klitschko First, Then Guillermo Jones

Cruiserweight champion Guillermo Jones (39-3-2, 31KOs) will have to wait before getting a fight with former WBO world heavyweight champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (58-6-1, 51 KOs).

This past Friday night in Panama City, Jones confronted Briggs in ring, following the former champ's first round knockout of Hungarian journeyman Zoltan Petranyi (51-22-1, 16 KOs) at the Hotel Sortis.

Jones has been inactive since testing positive for a banned substance before an early 2014 rematch with Denis Lebedev. He was suspended afterwards and then legally appealed that decision. He claims a deal has been reached to lift that suspension and he plans to compete as a heavyweight upon his ring return. [Click Here To Read More]

He won't fight any live body till he gets his payday, I mean title shot.
Wlad is a joke if he fights this washed up fighter who hasn't won a legit fight in over 10 years.

This is bad for boxing, now fighters will just talk their way into fights, instead of their fist doing the talking. I know the heavyweight division is weak, but there has to be at least 5-10 guys that are move deserving.

Briggs needs to fight 2 top ten heavys, then if he won both (which he wouldn't) he would have earned a shot (somewhat), but also to be ready for Wlad. No way he is more than a punching bag if he fights weak comp.

There's only 3 people that the fans wanna see Vlad fight ; 1) Briggs because he talks alot of **** and deserves the fight also because spends alot of his money following this guy around trying to get him to accept. 2) Fury because he talks alot of **** and 3) Wilder because he's good enough to actually win . There's really no reason for Vlad to not fight Briggs considering he's been fighting no names for about the last 10 years !

Briggs is not qualified for a title shot, he needs to beat a live opponent first.

Even old Guillermo Jones or Antonio Tarver would be a big step up from who he's been fighting.

He wouldnt even beat old fat CW Guillermo Jones, el Felino would wait stop him late or win decision after Briggs runs out of puff early

He should rematch that guy El Bruto, that is one of the funniest hw fights ive seen, poor guy had the most padded record possible and was justifiably terrified of briggs, it was awful to see

Briggs hasn't even stepped up to the journeyman club fighter level like a Jason Gavern type. That's all you need to know about this "comeback". El Guerdo Jones would probably be close to even money to beat Briggs. The funniest moment could be both fighters failing the post fight urinalysis..

How about in September Wlad fights and KOs Wilder, on the undercard Wlad fights and KOs Briggs. Would save some time for all of us, especially Klitschko.
