  • Comments Thread For: Provodnikov OK With Roach Missing Matthysse Fight

Ruslan Provodnikov isn’t worried about not having Freddie Roach in his corner when he faces Lucas Matthysse.

As long as Roach can continue helping him prepare for that difficult fight on a daily basis at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, Provodnikov is more than comfortable taking instruction from Roach’s assistant, Marvin Somodio, on fight night, April 18, in Verona, New York. Provodnikov’s confidence stems from his impressive victory over Mike Alvarado 17 months ago in Broomfield, Colorado, where Somodio worked Provodnikov’s corner in Roach’s absence.

Roach wasn't there when Provodnikov got the biggest win of his career against Alvarado.

He was there when he got his **** boxed off by Chris Algieri though.

He shouldn't be. I think that current fighters like ambition in that sense. They should want a trainer who is willing to work with them full time, not a trainer who sees them as a side project.

He's got Roach's filipino adoptive son, Marvin Samodio.

Sucks has to miss one guys biggest fight for the other guys biggest fight.

I know this is a no brainer but personally I think Provodnikov has more to lose.
