The head of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaiman, has revealed that his organization is going to spend a lot of money in constructing the special WBC emerald championship for the winner of Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao, which takes place on May 2nd at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The special belt is covered with three thousand small emeralds. Sulaiman is unsure of the exact cost and says the amount is irrelevant.

I think it's a good way to promote the fight. Not that it needs any promotion but heck, the NFL ,NBA all give out Championship rings too.

Don' know why but all this reminded me of the movie The Ragging Bull where a fat over the hill and broke LaMotta hammers out the gems in his Championship belt to go sell at a pawn shop.

I say why not. Let the belts have some real value. Like the old days. A trowback Championship belt with real gold and real gems. How kool is that.
