Comments Thread For: Pascal: Stoppage Was Early, I was Gonna KO Kovalev

There were those who had predicted Sergey Kovalev would bomb Jean Pascal out as Kovalev had done to so many others. And Pascal was indeed hurt early, suffering the first official knockdown of his career, pro or amateur, in the third round.

He came back, yet in the eighth round got hurt again. The referee, Luis Pabon, stepped in and waved the fight off. Many observers felt the stoppage was proper. Some felt it came too soon. Pascal, of course, is in the latter camp.

I think the stoppage was correct, upon watching it the second time. Great fight, hopefully we get Stevenson vs Kovalev next

It was a decent stoppage, Pascal was all over the place.

I wouldn't mind a rematch though, it was an entertaining scrap.

Pascal talking about getting a KO in round 10 or 11, does he not realize his stamina is terrible?

I'd watch a rematch, just not next. That said, it would be better than Mohammedi.

Let me be the first one to say this. "Pascal is a ****ing idiot". So in his mind, stumbling across the ring like a drunk and taking two huge rights to the head is " looking for the perfect counter punch"? I actually wish that the ref had let it go on,so pascal could get the Pacquiao treatment.

Pascal showed he have a big heart by surviving and took some rounds in his favor, but the stoppage was the right one to call. He was wobbly going to the neutral corner and he was hapless when those two shots landed on him. If the ref didn't stop Kovalev from finishing him off, he might have some permanent damage after that beating. The ref have to protect him from Kovalev and from himself.

So Pascal wanted to give Kov his wish, in putting him to deep sleep.

The stoppage was the correct decision, but I'm glad to hear that Jean is thoroughly convinced that he could have won the fight; that ought to make for an exciting rematch, and I hope that it will not be too very long in happening.
