Comments Thread For: Abner Mares Focused To Impress, Show He's Back

Abner Mares insists he's not lost his boxing skills since that almighty jolt from Jhonny González in August of 2013. After more than a year since he lost his undefeated record, along with the WBC featherweight title, Abner urgently wants to erase any question marks with precise punctuation.

“I didn’t lose anything in that bout with Gonzalez. I learned lots from that fight and now I'm focused in returning even better than before,” stressed Mares. [Click Here To Read More]

"There has been speculation that should Mares win, he will be matched against WBC super bantamweight champ Leo Santa Cruz, perhaps on May 2. Mayweather Promotions has the rights to control one of the undercard fights that will be shown on the pay-per-view telecast, and since both fighters are aligned with Al Haymon, it***8217;s a fight that very well could be made."

Of course. Against that type of opponent he should. About the only thing that he opponent has is a decent chin.

      Gonzalez really shook Mares

For those who disliked him even before Jhonny, yes. For those whom actually followed his career and are genuine fans of the guy, nope. He has done so much from 118 to 126 it's ******ed to focus on one loss. Sure he's been taking it light since his return but I'm honestly hoping for his return to the grand stage shortly, he has alot to offer and once he gets over the hump, he'll be back at full force.

Edit: But then again, this is BoxingScene.. where folks label the likes of Nonito Donaire an overhyped bum and claim he is ducking the Rigondeaux rematch after losing a one sided affair against him.

No one gonna think your back to you step it back up against the tops dogs.

The winner of Johnny Gonzales vs Tba KIller has your name all over it.

You only as great as your last fight, sad but true even though you have one of the most killer resumes in the sport.
