  • Comments Thread For: Shingo Wake Drills Jimmy Paypa in One Round

Shingo Wake extended his win streak to eight straight after knocking out Philippines' Jimmy Paypa inside of one round Friday evening in Tokyo, Japan.

A right-left combination put Paypa down late in the round, separating him from his senses to where he struggled to remain upright upon beating the count. The referee didn't like the reaction, immediately calling an end to the fight. [Click Here To Read More]

Quigg was suppose to fight this guy last November but Wake got injured and Quigg fought Otake instead.

Would be a great come back fight for Quigg in May/June if the Frampton doesn't happen.

When Hearn claimed Wake was injured Wake was posting training pictures of himself running in Okinawa and later said something alonge the lines of "I've no idea where the story of me fighting Quigg has come from"

I suspect Hearn saw some footage of Wake and backed out suspecting no one would check Wake's blog and stuff...

The Japanese seem to think that he is much better than the last dude Rigo fought and that if that guy could put Rigo down so could Wake.

Is he any good? I know the Japanese arent' prone to exaggeration but maybe Wake is a bit of a threat.

I read one guy on a British based forum suggest Wake as an opponent for Rigo like a year ago and he seemed confident that Wake could have the tools to give Rigo a tough one. At the time the guy would only link to the footage of the Oguni fight but now there's more to judge on.
From what I've seen Wake COURT be a handful for anyone. He's a tall, southpaw counter puncher with slippery movement, sharp counter punches, lovely bursts of punches and a developing belief in his power. His problems are that he can look lazy at times and his hands down defense has got holes in it.
I'd favour him against Amagasa, even at 126lbs. Funny that Amagasa had almost lost his previous bout, against Ryo Takanaka, but for a late stoppage...
